Working and Shaking My Booty

If anyone was curious to know the tune to the "I am slowly going crazy" song - click THIS link. Beware though, it's one of those songs that can get stuck in your head. Like this one. Muahahaha ;)

Since 2010 began, and a little before, I have been going crazy. With work. One of my cases ramped up at the very end of December and I have been working my butt off trying to keep up. It's not the kind of job that you can leave behind when you go home. We are expected to work when we're needed. That means we have normal "9-6" office hours and then we work from home (or the office if we weren't lucky enough to sneak out) very early in the morning and very late at night. Last night I was on the phone with a client from 10:48pm - 12:00am and then I continued to work until 1:30am. I'm tired.

Working 10/11/12 hour days is just not something I can do for every long and still keep my sanity. I admire all the work-aholics out there (actually I think they're a little crazy but I'll keep that to myself!) but bleh, that's just not who I am.

I usually read blogs and write posts from work (or from home in the evening) so those things have seriously suffered so far this month. Since it's ICLW I am going to try to fit in a bunch of commenting and a couple posts this week. I have a picture-heavy one in mind and maybe another video of River :) I'm so far behind in my reader and I just can't catch up. I'm sorry I haven't been reading/commenting lately - you may see some late comments from me in the next few weeks.

Happy ICLW! If you are new to my blog, the sidebar has a very brief timeline. I started this blog just about a year ago after having read infertility/TTC/pregnancy blogs for about a year prior. I didn't know if I'd keep it up, and I've taken a lot of breaks, but I'm still here. amazing. I think of new posts all the time but I'm just not very good at actually taking the time to write. In terms of TTC I have no idea where I am right now. My cycles are wacky and extremely long. I'm trying my best to lose weight (check out my ticker at the bottom - 16lbs! I'm so happy.) in the hopes that and the glumetza I'm on, for suspected PCOS, will kick-start some ovulation. I'm also trying to get some new CD3 blood work taken but that hasn't worked out for the past two cycles. Here's why I couldn't get it taken the first time. I didn't blog about it but the second CD3 opportunity fell right in the middle of new years vacation. Screw you too, AF.

C (my youngest sister) and I totally fell off the running wagon. I'm sad but I'm really planning on getting back out there. Up until the beginning of December, we were jogging for 30 minutes, 2 or 3 times a week. We got up to a little over 2 miles per time (which is very slow, I know). Before last year, neither of us had ever jogged before and we are both very sedentary people.

Instead of running I've started going to a yoga class once a week. I had never done it before and I LOVE it! I'd like to do it 3x a week but it's not possible with my schedule right now. For xmas I got a Wii and WiiFit Plus so I use that as often as I can to practice some yoga poses, and do all of the other fun games and stuff that offers. Even though I'm sure it doesn't take the place of normal exercise, it's very helpful to get me off the couch in the evenings.

Last week my coworker said, "hey, do you want to go to a kick-boxing class with me at noon tomorrow?" I love trying new things and I rarely get a chance to so I said sure. Well, the next day we went and it ended up being a zumba class. Soooo very far from kick-boxing :) It was pretty funny and I spent the next hour shaking my booty doing this weird combo of dance-aerobics. It was tough but fun so I went again this week and I think I'll keep going.

I need to get to a meeting so I'll leave you with a pic I took in 2009. I have a whole post of 2009 pics and stories that I never blogged about - hopefully I get to write it.

  1. Love yoga and Zumba, and yay for new exercise routines! Reading this inspires me to finally get back to my classes (those two and pilates, too!)...hopefully that inspiration lasts long enough to actually get me to the gym ;)

  2. Yikes, what an evening. I hope you got to sleep in maybe a little this morning? You have to be worn out!

    I love that you're so active - that's awesome!

  3. I keep hearing good things about Zumba, maybe I'll gove it a shot...
And over 2 miles in 30 is NOT bad at all- especially for a beginner (I played soccer competivively until I was nearly 20, and we had to do 2 miles under 20 minutes. 2+ in 30 is a GREAT start!) Jogging in winter is just too dang COLD!

  6. Good luck with your running and weight loss. I, too, am working on losing some weight. I'm also on glumetza and am doing what is called a low amylose diet. I ovulated for the first time EVER (in over 3 years of ttc!) on my own with this regimen. We also had a miracle pgcy (well, we think so at least!) in October, but sadly, we lost her (due to trisomy 21) the week before christmas.

My RE is a miracle worker and I try to share this diet/glumetza combination with as many pcosers as I can because it worked so well for us.

Anyway, best of luck to you with everything!

  8. Good to see you back, Jill - I have missed you!! Good work on the weight loss, that is sensational!! I can't believe that you work that much, that is crazy!! I used to work 10/12/14 hour days and then cracked - it was tough, I am not one of those work a holic people either - I would rather do lunch and fun things like that!!

Don't worry about falling off the running wagon, I always found it pretty tough in winter (and ours are pretty mild here!) and then once spring came, I dusted off my runners and headed out again - good on you for getting into the other things!

Have fun with the Wii - I luuurve mine!!

  9. Wow, that workload makes me tired just reading it! No wonder you don't have too much time and energy to run.... That said, I hope you'll be able to hop back on the wagon soon :)

Never tried zumba, but it does sound cool! Oh and yoga and running go pretty well together :)

  10. I too have never tried Zumba but always read how fun it is. I know you will start running again, you were doing too good. Maybe a chnage for now is what you needed. Yoga is cool and it sounds like despite your heavy workload, you still stay active. I look forward to 2010 on your blog. Happy ICLW.

  11. I love zumba. I find it much easier the second and third times and was mostly lost the first time I did it.

I hope you enjoy the Wii. If you find the Wii fit not challenging enough for your workout, try Sports Active.

  12. Glad to hear that you're doing okay - despite the crazy work schedule. I hope that it gets a little less crazy for you soon. I agree, long days like that are nuts!
And good for you for keeping up your exercising schedule despite the long days. That's the first thing that seems to fall by the wayside for me.

  16. I've never tried Zumba, but I've heard it is amazingly fun. Maybe I'll have to search out a class.

  18. Happy ICLW! I love that picture-- can't wait to hear the story behind it! I consider myself a runner. but can't resist a good Zumba class. There's nothing quite like burning the calories while looking like a complete fool (that would be me, I'm sure you looked perfectly normal). :) Best wishes!

  19. Yay for being able to keep exercising while working so many hours. I envy you!

Happy ICLW. Love the pic BTW.

  20. (I secretly think workaholics are crazy, too.)

  21. I think with your schedule yoga would be perfect. I would need it to stay sane. I've heard Zumba was fantastic but I've never tried it.

  22. I've never heard of Zumba but I might have to check it out. Just think, all of the great fitness things you're doing now will make running that much easier when you get back into it.

For what it's worth, a kickboxing class might be fun too - I took one for a long time when I was dealing with all of my IF-related anger, and it helped me tons to be able to beat the crap out of something/someone.
